Mission Statement

Our mission is to be a resource of encouragement for the positive Black Man who exemplifies a caring and responsible Father or Father figure while assisting and encouraging students who attend "Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Fathers Who Are Our Heroes -- Past and Present, annual breakfast fundraiser is an event that strengthens and encourages Fathers to continue to dispel many of the stereotypes, which often overshadow and attempt to destroy men of stature and character in our community. Fathers who are ordinary but extraordinary men and who may not be otherwise recognized in our society.

The inception of this program was initiated by The Blaine E. Smith, Sr., Scholarship Fund. Each year, we are committed to raise a minimum of $1,000.00 to be awarded to a New York City or State resident student of a Historically Black College or University. Mr. Smith was a strong advocate for education and supporter of his alma mater North Carolina Central University (NCCU). In 1998, the Class of 1953 in Mr. Smith's memory awarded the University $15,000.00.

For the past three years, his children, friends and supporters are keeping his legacy alive by honoring all Fathers for their commitment to family through this annual community event. Fathers Who Are Our Heroes -- Past and Present has given a portion of the ticket sales and journal advertisements (less operating expenses) to the Blaine E. Smith, Sr., Scholarship Endowment Fund benefiting students at North Carolina Central University.

It is our hope to expand our scope into other community type programs in the near future.

Join us, as we acclaim Fathers and Black Men of stature in our community while raising monetary gifts to send our future leaders to Black Colleges and Universities.
